Cal State San Marcos was founded in 1989 as a campus of the California State University system – the largest system of public higher education in the world. California State University San Marcos is located in North San Diego – the heart of coastal southern California. San Marcos is a small, safe, suburban city about 50 kilometers north of the city of San Diego and 150 kilometers south of Los Angeles.
